Protect yourself during the Week of the Tick
Tick Awareness Week is from April 22nd to 26th. Last week, extra attention was paid to preventing tick bites and tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease. Approximately 1.5 million people in the Netherlands are bitten by ticks each year. Around 27,000 people develop Lyme disease as a result. A smaller number are affected by other tick-borne diseases such as tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). This week of awareness is organized by Stigas, in collaboration with numerous organizations. other organizations, and is aimed at everyone who works in the green sector and nature lovers.
Information remains essential
A Stigas poll last year showed that many agricultural and green sector workers already receive information on safe tick removal. However, there's still considerable room for improvement. Companies could focus more on making clear agreements, assessing risks, and providing tick protection. Furthermore, there's a need for more information on tick bite prevention. For those who work in nature, tick bite prevention remains essential.
